EcoProtech Oy and Etelä-Karjalan Jätehuolto Oy have signed a turnkey contract for the biogas plant to be built at Lappeenranta's Kukkuroinmäki Waste Processing Center. Earth moving works start immediately and construction works begin in the spring of 2019. The plant is expected to be operational at the beginning of 2020.
The biogas plant will utilize source separated domestic bio-waste from South Karelian residents and sewage sludge from waste water treatment plants. Biogas is further refined into transport fuel for gas-powered cars, thus replacing fossil fuels. Gas can also be used in heat and power production in the area of the Waste Processing Center.
EcoProtech Oy is a company specializing in biogas technology. The plant is so called dry digestion biogasplant. The plug flow reactor is based on a proprietary technology of a Central European partner.
EcoProtech Oy will execute the contrat with its affiliated companies – Provetek Oy and BioCone Oy. Provetek Oy (www.provetek.fi) is responsible for the construction and installation work of the plant as well as for the production of certain process equipment. The majority of machine and steel structures, including large scale bioreactors, are manufactured by BioCone Oy (www.biocone.fi). The employment impact of the project in the group is at least 30-35 man years.
